Quaternary Source

Better than Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Sources.

Wow, just… wow. I haven’t been this impacted by an issue of Batman since Batman killed Darkseid in Batman #702. These three pages don’t even do the issue (Batman #5) justice, these are just some moments that just made me gasp as I was reading it. This is Batman. Batman after years of arduous trials and at least a decade of experience. This is Batman after he, a mere man faced and killed a God. This is Batman after he was cast into the abyss and returned from death. To go through all of that, and to completely go “batty” just now? That says a lot. How does Scott Snyder get away with that and still make this profound? It’s because the new set of villains Snyder has created, “The Court of Owls” represents something deeply personal to Bruce: Gotham City. Gotham City is Batman. This makes the assaults the court of Owls makes against Batman almost existential one, as these villains have been hiding the entire time, hundreds of years before Bruce Wayne was even born. To live your life, your entire life, a certain way, only to find out you never really controlled what you thought you controlled all along? That’s what’s going on in this issue of Batman. Batman is slowly realizing as he wanders through this labyrinth that he wasn’t as strong as he thought he was, even after doing everything he did. He realized that everything he stood for was all for naught. Fascinating, absolutely fascinating.
